Leading edge closed-cell plastic foam
Ultralon Products
Ultralon Products was purchased by Skellerup 20 years ago and is now a successful niche market exporter specialising in performance foam for snowboard/ski boot liners, water ski, wakeboard and marine products as well as orthotics and many other markets worldwide.
Producing a range of chemically cross-linked closed-cell foams manufactured from Polyethylene (PE), Ethylene-vinyl-acetate co-polymers (EVA) and many blended specialised foams, the foams can be processed to clients' specific size and thickness requirements.
"We have the best technology and have become very sophisticated and innovative to suit specialist applications for foam users," General Manager Ultralon Products Maurice Keats says.
Ultralon is recognised as the world's leading manufacturer of foam for the snowboard/ski boot liner market for high profile global brands which include K2, Dalbello, Scarpa, Ride, and Full Tilt.
In the wakeboard and water ski market, popular brands such as Square One, with the leading brands of Radar and Ronix, are among Ultralon's clients for foam boot liners and bindings.
With a background in footwear pattern design, Keats can help customers design products for their own branded boots and footwear.
"The fact that we are a smaller manufacturer means we have the ability to be more flexible about new innovation and can respond to the customers' needs, developing specific foams to meet their requirements," he says.
Ultralon products are also successfully selling in the marine industry. Innovative deck treads and other non-slip surfaces for boats, cockpit cushions and boat fenders are all popular products sold through global chandry equipment retailers.
"A good gauge of our success is that we sold 23, 40-foot containers of foam into China this year for the snowboard/ski boot liner market. This was only possible because our foam is innovative, high quality and compiles to all the Non Hazardous Substances dictated by our high profile international customers," says Keats.
New technology to be introduced this year will improve productivity, reduce waste up to 40% and make Ultralon more globally competitive in terms of manufacturing foam in a more generic block size, Keats says.
