Brilliant R&D creates market leading products

Skellerup has a keen sense of curiosity and a desire to create new technology that will help define the future of its industries.

Whether inspired by a comment from a customer or the search for a better way to do something, the company's research and development team will find a way to produce innovative products.

"Across the Skellerup Group, we are focused on working together to quickly deliver the best results and practical solutions to our customers. As a leader in the production of technically demanding polymer products, we strive for total reliability. Our products do the job right – first time," says Dairy International General Manager Wade Macauley.

All over the world, the company's R&D teams are working on exciting new projects in an environment that encourages creativity, lateral thinking and inventiveness.

With its highly regarded R&D expertise, and its investment in strong branded products, Skellerup is a market leader in many segments. The company also has the in-house capability to work with international customers to design products that meet specific market requirements.

Skellerup's signature product is the rubber milking liner – the only component that comes in contact with a cow's teat during milking. Supplying the leading global and regional original equipment manufacturers (OEM's), Skellerup is the world's second largest manufacturer of dairy rubberware.

The acquisition of Australian company Deks in 2003 also makes Skellerup one of the largest producers of roof flashings in the world.

In the buoyant mining resources market in Australia, demand for Skellerup's rubber components has also been driven up after the R&D team invented a product that fixed a major issue in the iron ore industry, resulting in this becoming one of Skellerup's fastest growing businesses.

In the United States, Skellerup is a preferred supplier of vacuum pumps to key distributors in the dairy industry and in mobile liquid waste removal.

In recent years Skellerup has placed a lot of emphasis on implementing DIFOT (delivery in full on time), an internationally accepted performance standard that measures customer satisfaction.

Skellerup has made it a priority to meet international standards for both its products and management practices. These standards are important when dealing with markets that require verification of operating standards identical to their own.

The company has been independently audited and awarded ISO9001, an international accreditation recognising quality assurance, and ISO 14001, the international standard that focuses on minimising environmental impacts across product life cycles. Skellerup is also one of the few companies in New Zealand to gain the ASNZ4801 accreditation for its health and safety management systems.
