World #2 in Dairy

Agri division

The Agri Division's main market focus is the manufacture and distribution of technically sophisticated products for the dairy industry and 75% of its output is exported.

Skellerup is the world's second largest manufacturer of dairy rubberware.

Dairy International General Manager Wade Macauley says: "We take a lot of pride in the fact our two largest competitors are based right in the middle of the two largest dairy markets on the other side of the world."

Skellerup has been an active participant in the global dairy industry for more than 50 years and in that time has grown from a long-established business supplying dairy rubberware, to extending its product range to include vacuum and milk pumps, milk filters, calf teats and the Ambic range of dairy hygiene equipment.

Skellerup supplies to the leading global and regional original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as many leading dairy industry distributors. It means the farmers themselves may not recognise a product as being made by Skellerup as components are fitted to equipment manufacturers' brands.

The manufacture of Skellerup's dairy rubberware is done at the fully-integrated site in Woolston, Christchurch, where Skellerup has been based since the 1930s. Design engineers and rubber chemists spearhead innovative research and development.

"All of the machinery used has been designed and invented by Skellerup and it is designed specifically for making dairy liners, tubing and jetter wash cups," Macauley says.

Skellerup exports dairy related products to over 50 customers in 32 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, France, Germany, Denmark and Australia.

Skellerup is also a leading supplier of vacuum pumps and components to all major international dairy equipment OEMs. In addition to manufacturing a large range of vacuum pumps, Skellerup also supplies a range of milk pumps and plate heat exchangers.

"Skellerup is exporting to every established market in the world which uses mechanised dairy milking systems in one form or another," Macauley says.

Research and development is targeted at assisting customers to help farmers improve their milk yields. One area of concentration presently is increasing Skellerup's capabilities around the use of high grade silicone in the milking shed environment.

Skellerup is recognised internationally for its innovative design abilities and the speed in which it can help its customers to introduce new products to the market.

The future will provide opportunities to expand the dairy rubberware range and increase quantities.
