The Land of Skellerup
Look outside a farmer's back door and chances are you'll find a pair of boots made by Skellerup. Whichever ones they are, you can bet they've been around a while. You see, Skellerup have been making boots for rural New Zealand for more than 60 years. During that time, we've come to know what it takes to build a boot capable of performing in the most demanding situations. Ever since New Zealand's first rubber gumboot, the original 'Marathon', emerged from the vulcaniser on September 9, 1943, we've set about creating a standard for rubber gumboots, not just here, but around the world.

Setting the standards since 1943
The same methods used in making that first boot are still used today. But over the years, our boots have undergone constant refinement. Using our knowledge of life outdoors, we've created new ranges of leather work boots to meet the demands of an ever diversifying working environment.
We've come a long way since 1943. Boots such as Marathon, Red Band, and Perth are now a familiar part of the fabric of rural New Zealand and  the Skellerup Hall of Fame is lined with boots built for just about every  occupation there is.

The Skellerup Way
Every Skellerup gumboot is hand made. Why do we do it this way? Because it allows us to incorporate specific features for New Zealand conditions, and to use the very best components, for extra durability.

Boots for New Zealanders
We still use the same natural rubber formulation in our gumboots that we started with in 1943. Each boot component is bonded in place by hand, before the finished boot is vulcanised using heat and pressure. And to ensure comfort and compatibility with local conditions, all our boots are shaped to match typical New Zealand feet. Skellerup leather working boots are made to our own rigid specifications on purpose built production systems. Soles are constructed using the latest Skellerup formulations specifically designed for the rigours of outdoor use. And inside each boot you'll find an unsurpassed level of padding and support that have taken work boots to new levels of comfort.

Only the best get through
No line of Skellerup boots is allowed into full time service without first passing our gruelling physical fitness programme. We flex them. We grind them. We put them on the feet of people working in some of the toughest environments we can find. Then we pull them apart to make sure they're up to it. As footwear evolves, Skellerup is vigilant in exploring innovative ways to use new technology. For it is only through our understanding of New Zealand's hardest working environment that we've come so far. And it is through this understanding that we will continue as leaders in the future of rural and industrial footwear.
